Chandrayaan - 3 Monument

Last week, we had to pick one of the Top Ten Events from the poster and create an imaginary monument that represented it. Our group chose the Chandrayaan-3 landing. I decided to write about the monument that we came up with.

Background information: Chandrayaan 3 is the third mission in the Chandrayaan program, a series of lunar exploration missions developed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Chandrayaan-3 was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre on 14 July 2023. The spacecraft entered lunar orbit on 5 August, and the lander touched down near the lunar south polar region on 23 August at 12:33 UTC, making India the fourth country to successfully land on the Moon, and the first to do so near the region of the lunar south pole.

Firstly, the monument should preferably be built in India. The design consists of a replica of the model of Chandrayaan-3 in the center, and a room detailing the whole process from building to landing of Chandrayaan 3. Two small models of Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2 should be placed at the entrance, representing India’s massive success after two failed attempts. There should be a model of the dark side of the moon with the Indian flag on it. This represents India landing near the south-polar region of the moon for the first time ever. This monument should be placed in a highly developed area to represent technological advancement. Visitors will be able to literally walk through the journey of the Chandrayaan series.
